Woman Arrested After Deadly Clearlake Area Hit-and-Run
On Wednesday, December 2, 2020, a woman was placed under arrest after fleeing the scene of a fatal Clearlake area hit-and-run crash. The accident occurred earlier in the day and involved a vehicle and cyclist. The fatally injured cyclist was identified as a 73-year-old man from the community of Lakeport. However, his name has not yet been released by Lake County authorities. The woman was identified as a 33-year-old resident of Nice. California Highway Patrol (CHP) has indicated that the incident remains under investigation.
Crash Details
CHP reports that the collision occurred at around 1:50 p.m. in Lakeport on Lakeshore Boulevard to the north of Hill Road East. According to reports, the cyclist was riding southbound on Lakeshore inside of the southbound lane. At the same time, the Nice woman was driving a 2005 Kia Sorento while also heading south on Lakeshore, approaching the location of the cyclist.
As the Kia passed the cyclist, it struck the rear-end of the bicycle. The force of the crash threw the cyclist over the vehicle, and he eventually landed on the road. The driver of the Kia immediately left the scene and reportedly left the vehicle at a local hotel.
Response
Responders arriving at the crash scene found the cyclist was seriously hurt. CHP states that medical personnel performed lifesaving efforts, but that the man tragically lost his life on-site. Additionally, CHP indicated that the cyclist was wearing proper protective clothing and a helmet at the time of the accident.
Investigation
While the missing driver has been located and placed under arrest, officers are still trying to determine all of the factors that played a role in this accident. CHP has stated that they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved. No other factors have been mentioned in reports.
The Impact of Fatal Accidents
Losing someone during a vehicle collision is a tragedy, and families frequently feel overwhelmed by grief. After such a loss, it’s common to feel intense anger, confusion, sadness, or even shock, and coping with your grief can take a long time. Many of those who experience such a loss are able to find comfort by taking time away from their responsibilities in order to be with their friends, family, and community.
However, many families are unable to focus on healing because of pressing financial concerns. Suddenly losing a person in your life can leave you without a source of income and/or valuable services, leaving many people unsure of how they’ll be able to afford funeral and burial services or, in some cases, even their bills.
Fortunately, it’s possible to reach out for help from a wrongful death lawyer. An experienced attorney can help you understand what compensation may be available to you for your losses, and, in many cases, families are able to fully recover their economic damages as well as payments for personal suffering.
