Deadly I-80 Accident in Fairfield
On Friday, December 25, 2020, a woman tragically passed away after an auto accident in Fairfield. Officials from the Solano County Sheriff’s Office have identified the fatally injured woman as Jeanne Dea, a 62-year-old resident of Sacramento. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the accident occurred late at night on Highway Interstate 80 and involved two vehicles. The cause of this incident is currently under CHP investigation.
Crash Details
The crash occurred at around 11:27 p.m. on the eastbound side of I-80, close to Travis Boulevard. CHP stated that a black-colored Honda Civic entered the highway using the eastbound Travis on-ramp when the driver apparently lost control of their vehicle. The Honda reportedly traveled across all eastbound highway lanes before crashing into the concrete median. After the crash, the vehicle came to a stop inside of the No. 1 lane.
Shortly after the initial collision, an eastbound Lexus crashed into the wrecked Honda. Subsequently, three other vehicles were involved in separate crashes around the location of the first and second accidents.
Response
Responders reached the accident scene shortly after the incident occurred. Medical officials responding to the accident found that three people inside of the Lexus, including Dea, had sustained major injuries. All three were rushed to the NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield for emergency care. Sadly, Dea later passed away while in hospital custody.
Whether or not anybody inside of the Honda sustained injuries was unreported. Additionally, police stated that none of the occupants of the three other vehicles that crashed in the area suffered injuries.
Investigation
As their investigation is ongoing, officers haven’t released a full list of suspected accident factors. However, police have stated that the roadway was wet at the time of the accident and that the slick pavement could have played a role in causing the crash. Often, accidents like this one involve multiple causes, including other things that can’t be controlled by drivers, like defective car parts.
Investigating a deadly vehicle accident can be a difficult job, especially if police can’t interview the decedent about what occurred. In these cases, police may never fully understand what took place, meaning that families might be unable to obtain fair compensation from at-fault parties. To prevent this, it’s critical to work with an experienced Fairfield wrongful death lawyer who can conduct their own investigation into the incident.
