Rosemont Accident Along Huntsman Drive
On December 2, a two-vehicle crash along Huntsman Drive near Lincoln Highway in Rosemont resulted in injury. The collision was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as happening at about 9:24 in the morning, although details about the accident were not forthcoming. However, a woman involved in the crash was reported to have suffered injuries to her back and neck, and emergency medical services were called to the scene. A tow truck had to be called to the accident site to remove one of the vehicles described as a Nissan. An investigation into the crash is underway by the CHP in order to find out how the accident happened and to assign fault. There is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved in the two-vehicle crash, nor have any arrests been made.
Back and Neck Injuries in a Two-Vehicle Crash
Depending on the force of impact and the type of accident, back and neck injuries are common after a two-vehicle crash. Let’s look at some of the injuries a person may suffer:
- Rear-end collision: Such accidents are notorious for injuries to the cervical portion of the spine and upper back. They are referred to as cervical (neck) sprain or whiplash. They happen when one vehicle strikes the rear portion of another car or truck. This causes the occupants to experience a rapid back and forth motion to their cervical spine, which damages ligaments and tendons. The accidents are usually caused by driver distraction, sudden stops, tailgating, or inclement weather. Apart from a cervical sprain, herniation to the vertebrae can occur. In vehicles with a small rear bumper such as minivans, rear-seated passengers can be seriously injured or killed.
- Back strain: Soft tissue in the thoracic and lumbar areas or mid-back are affected when the tendons are stretched unnaturally. This can cause pain and immobility.
- Herniated discs: After a car accident, the small, spongy discs that cushion the vertebrae may be harmed, causing them to bulge or rupture. When this happens, pressure on the nerves exiting the spinal cord can cause pain, weakness, and numbness. Some herniations require surgery, while others will heal with conventional treatment.
- Fractures: Vertebral bones can be fractured in the mid and low back or lumbar area. There are several different types, including extension and flexion fractures, as well as rotational. The first two are seen more frequently.
What an Attorney Can Do for You
After a car accident, many individuals are unable to fight for themselves due to injury. The first duty an injured person has is to heal. That is where a personal injury law firm comes in. At our firm, we understand an accident can have both physical and financial effects, and we know the toll this can take on you and your family. When we are retained, we immediately send our investigators to the accident site to gather evidence. This is essential since without it, there is no case. Our investigators interview witnesses, obtain videos from traffic surveillance cameras and other sources, and review police reports for inaccuracies. Once this data is amassed, our investigative team releases it to our lawyers, who use it to structure a strong case in our client’s favor.
