Woman Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash Near Stockton
A woman from Tracy was killed in a single-vehicle crash on rural Highway 4 near the Stockton area on the night of Friday, November 6, 2020. The car accident occurred on State Route 4 in the vicinity of Milton Road in an unincorporated area of Stanislaus County shortly after 11:00 p.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said a woman was behind the wheel of a 1998 Nissan Altima and was headed eastbound on SR-4 when she reportedly lost control of her vehicle. The Nissan struck a dirt embankment, causing it to go airborne and land on the roadway on the rear-end.
According to a CHP traffic report, the impact allegedly caused the rear window to shatter and ejected the driver through the opening. Despite the efforts of medical and fire crews that were called to the scene of the rollover accident, the Nissan driver succumbed to her injuries on site. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office has identified the decedent as 25-year-old Hanna Workman of Tracy.
Who is Responsible for a Stockton Single-Vehicle Crash Resulting in a Rollover?
A rollover accident often occurs because a driver must take evasive action to avoid striking an object in the road or another driver who suddenly enters the path of their vehicle. A car may slide across the roadway because of this maneuver. Sport utility vehicles (SUVs), light pickup trucks, and passenger vans have higher centers of gravities that make them susceptible to tipping and rolling over. One of the many duties that car manufacturers owe to drivers is to warn drivers of any potential and foreseeable dangers. As a result of this duty, rollover accident cases often involve a faulty design component or defective auto product. This is why it is critical to preserve your wrecked vehicle after a rollover.
Wrongful Death Claims and Defective Vehicles
In auto products liability cases, those who have lost a loved one or who have been hurt in a rollover accident must prove that the vehicle had a defect in the manufacture or design that caused or exacerbated the injury or death. Automakers are expected to manufacture products that are reasonably safe to put onto the market when used properly. The brake system, handling, and roof of the vehicle are some of the components that come under scrutiny in the event of a rollover collision. These accidents are often the result of poorly designed stability systems, poor suspension system designs, improper brake systems, defects in the tread of tires, and tire failure.
The roofs of motor vehicles are susceptible to crushing in a rollover accident, and if the roof fails to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 216 on roof crush resistance, the manufacture of the car may be held liable for personal injury or wrongful death damages incurred.
