Woman Seriously Injured During Alleged Redding DUI Crash
On Saturday, September 12, 2020, one person suffered serious injuries during an alleged Redding DUI crash. According to the Redding Police Department (RPD), the crash happened very late at night and involved a single vehicle as well as a pedestrian. The driver involved in the accident has reportedly been placed under arrest on DUI charges and updates on the injured woman’s condition have not been reported.
Collision Details
The accident happened at around 1:15 a.m. on State Route 237 to the north of Canyon Road. According to police, a 39-year-old woman from Redding was driving her a Honda Civic northbound on the highway just prior to the crash. As she was driving, her vehicle crashed into a 25-year-old Redding woman who was crossing the street with a male companion.
Response and Arrest
When responders arrived at the site of the crash, they determined that the younger woman had suffered severe trauma and had her driven by ambulance to the Mercy Medical Center to be given immediate medical care. Whether or not any other parties suffered injuries was not reported.
At the accident scene, police placed the driver under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver has since been booked into the Shasta County Jail and faces a felony DUI charge. RPD has stated that they are actively conducting an accident investigation in order to determine all of the involved causal factors.
Pedestrian Injuries
Pedestrians are liable to suffer major injuries during car accidents. Because they are not protected by airbags or walls of steel, pedestrians can be seriously hurt even in accidents that otherwise would have been considered minor. Common pedestrian accident injuries include:
- Bone fractures
- Traumatic head injuries
- Chest trauma
- Internal injuries
- Major lacerations
- Spinal cord injuries
- Cervical sprains
All of the above injury types can have a huge impact on your life. Many injured pedestrians face a long and difficult road to regaining their health and the recovery process for a major injury can be both physically painful and mentally stressful.
Furthermore, these injuries can also have a major financial impact. The medical treatment required for major injuries is often expensive and can add up to a very large bill. People often worry over whether or not they will be able to afford the care they need, especially if their income has been affected by their injury.
Getting Help
The issues described above are very serious and injured pedestrians may feel overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. Fortunately, crash survivors can reach out for help by calling a Redding pedestrian accident lawyer. By filing injury claims and pursuing compensation for damages from at-fault parties, crash survivors can often claim full payment for the losses they’ve suffered.
