I’m Ed Smith, a Merced personal injury lawyer. Four vehicles were involved in a car accident in Merced County on the morning of Monday, November 13, 2017. The accident, unfortunately, caused multiple parties to suffer traumatic injuries.
We would like to wish for a swift and full recovery for those who were injured in this frightening car accident.
What Happened?
A Merced man was driving his gray Dodge Ram 2500 northbound along Highway 59 in the vicinity of Rahilly Road at approximately 10:00 am. Three vehicles were stopped ahead of the Dodge waiting for another car to conduct a turn onto Rahilly Road. The Dodge was allegedly traveling about 60 miles per hour moments before losing control and veering to the left side of the roadway. The Dodge collided with the rear-end of a 2015 Honda CRV. The impact of the collision propelled the Honda CRV into the a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze driven by a San Jose woman. The Chevrolet then crashed with a 2006 Honda van driven by a Le Grange woman. The Dodge came to a rest moments after the impact in a drainage ditch.
Was Anybody Injured?
The motorist of the Dodge Ram was uninjured in the car accident. The drivers of the Chevrolet Cruze and the Honda van both complained of pain but were not taken to the hospital. The 55-year-old Dos Palos woman driving the Honda CRV suffered major injuries and was transported to the hospital for injury treatment.
What Caused the Accident?
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is in charge of the accident investigation. A Traffic Collision Report by CHP generally takes one to two weeks to be processed. However, officials ruled out alcohol as a factor in the collision.
Accidents Involving Speeding Vehicles
Speeding proposes endless dangers to those traveling on the roadway. Speed limits are placed and enforced to serve the sole purpose of protection. Drivers are expected to monitor their speed at all times, even if they are traveling at the posted speed limit. Motorists are obligated to lower their speed while driving in inclement conditions, road construction or a poorly-lit areas.
Speeding has negative consequences aside from civil and legal penalties. According to a 2015 report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 9,557 victims passed away in accidents involving excess speed. Speeding was determined to have contributed to twenty-seven percent of all fatal traffic collisions that same year.
The best way to avoid speeding starts with the driver. Give yourself extra time when driving to school, work or an appointment. Maintain patience while traveling in congested traffic conditions. If another motorist is tailgating you on the road, switch lanes and allow them to pass through to avoid a road rage accident. Following these safety tips may ensure the safety of yourself and your passengers when driving along the roadway.
