Woodland Double Fatality Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a Woodland personal injury lawyer. During the early hours of the morning on Sunday, April 9, 2017, a multi-vehicle collision occurred on southbound Interstate 5, just before County Road 13.
What Happened?
According to officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a small sedan was traveling southbound on Interstate 5. It was reported that the sedan was attempting to change lanes when it collided with a full-size GMC and spun out of control passing the center divide and coming to a rest in the northbound lanes of the interstate. Once the sedan came to a rest a vehicle that was traveling northbound struck it. Another vehicle that was traveling in the area at the time of the accident struck debris from one of the vehicles and suffered major damage.
Were There Injuries?
Yes. According to investigators, the drivers of the sedan and the northbound traveling vehicle both suffered traumatic injuries in the accident and succumbed to their injuries shortly after the collision.
Interstate Closures and Investigation
A northbound and southbound lane of Interstate 5 was closed for a short time on Sunday while officers worked to collect evidence and clear the scene. It is unknown at this time if distracted driving, speed, or driving under the influence are possible contributing factors in this collision.
