Woodland Fatality Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a Woodland personal injury lawyer. A multi-vehicle accident took place on Interstate 5 in Woodland on Thursday, April 13, 2017.
What Happened?
Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision shortly after 4:45 p.m. on Thursday evening. When officers arrived at the scene on southbound Interstate 5, they discovered that three vehicles were involved in the accident. According to reports, an SUV was traveling southbound when the flow of traffic suddenly came to a stop. For unknown reasons the driver of the SUV was unable to stop their vehicle in time and rear-ended the vehicle in front of them, the SUV continued on to collide with another vehicle on the interstate before finally coming to a stop.
Were There Injuries?
Yes. Four people inside the first vehicle that was rear-ended suffered traumatic injuries in the accident and were transported by ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, a minor passenger succumbed to his injuries.
Investigation and Road Closures
Southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the Yolo County and Sacramento County line were temporarily closed to through traffic while officers worked to collect preliminary evidence and information from the scene. CHP does not believe alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in this tragic accident. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this accident to please contact them at (530) 662-4685 with any information they may have witnessed.
