Woodland Truck Overturns
Woodland Truck Overturns
I’m Ed Smith, a Woodland truck accident attorney. Heavy rains contributed to the fish-tailing of large commercial truck on Friday, March 4, 2016.
What Happened?
A big-rig was driving along Interstate 5 above East Main Street in Woodland. It was raining and the roads were wet and slick. The big-rig driver lost control and overturned. Traffic through the area was shut down for several hours of the afternoon.
Was Anyone Injured?
The operator of the big-rig, Robert Hirschfield of Williams, was not hurt. His 2011 Peterbuilt was not so fortunate. It suffered moderate property damage. Additionally, 30-feet of roadway damage occurred to the east edge of the Main Street bridge.
Does the Law Require Trucks To Carry Liability Insurance?
Yes. Federal law mandates that trucks be insured. Drivers are required to carry proof of that insurance, if they are driving between states or countries, or if they are hauling hazardous materials. Trucks are not to be operated or driven until and unless they have the required insurance. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires higher insurance premiums in some trucking industry situations as proof of financial responsibility. This liability insurance covers injuries and damages to others as the result of commercial trucking accidents.
