Serious Bus Accident Injuries
Injuries that occur in a bus accident depend on a variety of factors. For instance, if you are a passenger on the bus, you may be injured when the bus crashes into another vehicle or stationary object. The most serious accidents occur when the bus is traveling along a highway at high speed. In other cases, a pedestrian, cyclist, or vehicular accident can cause catastrophic injuries due to size inequality. Let’s look at some of the worst-case scenarios:
- Bus versus pedestrian accidents: By far, this is the worst situation for serious injuries and deaths. Given the size of the bus and the pedestrian, it is no wonder this has catastrophic results. Some common ways this happens is when a bus driver fails to look before making a turn on an urban street corner. Other examples are when the bus driver makes sharp or wide turns or drives through a crosswalk when pedestrians are trying to cross.
- Bus/car accidents: Whether on a busy street in a town or in a rural setting, there is no doubt that when a bus strikes a passenger vehicle, there will be injuries. The speed of the bus is a factor in the seriousness of the injuries.
- Bus versus cyclist accidents: There are several reasons this type of accident occurs. Bus drivers don’t always look to see if a cyclist is in the bike lane before making a right-hand turn. Sometimes, the bus driver may move into the path of a bicyclist. In either instance, this is the fault of the bus driver.
- Poor bus maintenance: In some cases, the bus itself has not been properly maintained. This can result in blinker lights not working, giving no warning to others the bus is about to make a turn or move into an adjacent lane.
What an Attorney Can Do For You
Pedestrians are vulnerable when crossing the street. When they are hit by a large vehicle, their chances of going uninjured are small. Our firm believes that no one should suffer physically or financially for another’s negligence. In order to help clients obtain the compensation they deserve, we start by sending our investigative team to the accident site. There, they search for evidence as to why and how it happened. The investigators also interview witnesses, review police reports for accuracy, and obtain video footage from traffic cams and nearby businesses that show how the accident happened. Once this data has been gathered, it is turned over to our lawyers who use it to build a strong case in your favor.
