Yolo County Traffic Fatality
Yolo County Traffic Fatality
I’m Ed Smith, a Woodland auto accident attorney. We were saddened to learn of another traffic fatality near Zamora in Yolo County.
What Happened?
A woman passed away following a car crash on Interstate 5 Thursday morning, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP).
At about 8:30 a.m., the 37-year-old female — whose identity has not been released yet — was behind the wheel of a 1996 Pontiac. She was on Interstate 5 southbound, south of the over-crossing of County Road 91B. She was travelling at an undetermined speed. Meanwhile, 68-year-old James L. Schwab, was behind the wheel of a 2015 Toyota northbound on Interstate 5, in the number 2 (slow lane). He was approaching the over-crossing of County Road 91B.
For reasons unknown at the time, the woman allowed her car to drift into the center median. From there it continued to travel into the northbound lanes of Interstate 5.
Schwab’s vehicle was unable to avoid the impact with the Ponitac.
“The impact caused the Pontiac to be thrown towards the frontage road, County Road 99W, where it came to rest,” according to the CHP report. “The Toyota came to rest off the roadway near the right hand shoulder.”
Sadly, the woman suffered fatal injuries as a result of this tragic collision. Schwab was transported to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento with major injuries.
What Caused the Yolo County Traffic Fatality?
This Yolo County traffic fatality remains under investigation by the CHP. Sometimes serious car accidents, like the two traffic fatalities recently in Zamora, are better handled by an experienced auto accident attorney. In order to pinpoint fault, a trained accident expert will promptly and thoroughly photograph, collect evidence and obtain witnesses statements at the scene. Sometimes, CHP reports are inconclusive and vague as to who was at fault. This can lead to insurance adjusters trying to force liability on an innocent party. With painful injuries, mounting medical bills and lost wages –it’s a good idea to call an attorney who will help you understand your rights and discuss your options.
