Young Child Hurt in Corning Auto Accident

Recently, a 2-year-old child suffered serious injuries during a Corning auto accident. The Corning Police Department (CPD) stated that the accident involved a single vehicle in addition to the young pedestrian and happened in a residential area during the late morning. The child was reportedly hospitalized following the incident, and updates on her condition have not been reported. The accident remains under CPD investigation.

Collision Information

The accident occurred at about 10:31 a.m. on Marin Street near the intersection of 6th street not far from the Corning Fire Department. According to police, a white Chevrolet pickup truck being driven by a 64-year-old Corning woman was heading west on Marin at or under the speed limit when the child entered the street. The driver reportedly attempted to avoid a crash, but the pickup’s bumper struck the child. While the child was not run over, the police stated that she may have made contact with a tire.

Response

Witnesses called police immediately and responders were rushed out to the site. When they arrived, medical responders determined that the child had sustained cuts, bruising, abrasions, and other possible injuries as a result of the crash. Responders called for a medical helicopter and the toddler was flown to the Enloe Medical Center in Chico for immediate care.

Investigation

As CPD continues to investigate the crash, Officer Dave Pryatel reported that, according to preliminary investigations, speedings and driver intoxication are not suspected as collision factors. So far, no suspected factors have been mentioned by investigating officers. In many cases like this one, there are key non-driver accident factors like hazardously designed roads and/or defective vehicle products.

Calling an Injury Attorney

People who are injured in car accidents often sustain very serious trauma, and children are especially vulnerable. In many cases, young car accident survivors need extensive medical care in order to fully recover. This care can include surgeries as well as physical therapy, medications, and other expensive procedures. While children tend to heal quickly, a serious injury can affect their development and they may need extra support while they regain their health.

All of these costs add up quickly and families frequently worry about how they are going to pay for the care that their injured child needs. However, it’s often possible to claim full compensation for these expenses and other damages through personal injury claims, which seek to hold at-fault parties and insurance companies financially liable after serious accidents.

The best way to find out whether or not you may be able to claim accident compensation is to call an experienced Corning personal injury lawyer. By talking with an attorney about your accident, you will be able to get the advice you need to move forward with an injury claim.
