Young Sacramento Victim of Tragic Bicycle Accident
- The 9-year-old child of a man killed in a tragic Sacramento bicycling accident returned home to his mother on October 18, 2015.
- The young boy was riding his bicycle with his father along Edison Avenue in Sacramento when they were hit by a car.
- The child’s 33-year-old father was killed in this accident.
NATURE OF THE BOY’S INJURIES
As a result of this tragedy, the child suffered a traumatic brain injury and a broken foot. We have learned that the boy was in an induced state of coma for nearly six weeks as a result of receiving life-threatening injuries and having to undergo multiple surgeries. Those surgeries took place at UC Davis Medical Center. Additional surgery will be needed within the next six months to repair other damages he sustained.
WHAT CAUSED THIS ACCIDENT?
Initial reports suggested that the driver who hit the bicyclists may have been distracted by a text message on his phone when the incident occurred.
WILL CHARGES BE FILED AGAINST THE DISTRACTED DRIVER?
The California Highway Patrol has just completed its investigation into the accident. It is up to the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office whether or not to bring criminal charges against the distracted driver.
