Pedestrian Killed in Marysville DUI Hit-and-Run
A fatal car accident took place in Marysville on Saturday, December 16, 2018. Authorities from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident left a pedestrian with fatal injuries. Police also stated that the woman was struck by a driver who immediately fled the scene of the accident. The driver was later found by responding officers and placed under arrest for charges related to driving under the influence leading to fatal harm. Authorities say that the fatally injured pedestrian was a 46-year-old resident of Marysville but have not yet reported her full identity. My sincere condolences are extended to the woman’s friends and family members after this tragic incident.
Crash Details
Police reports state that the crash happened on North Beale Road close to the northbound on-ramp for Highway 70 at around 1:20 a.m. The Marysville woman had been walking southbound on the sidewalk of North Beale when a 25-year-old man driving a 2018 Jeep approached her location while heading north. The Jeep swerved off of the road and struck the pedestrian, immediately leaving the accident location.
The driver reportedly continued traveling north and entered Highway 70 into Marysville eventually stopping his vehicle in the parking lot of a McDonald’s located at E and 4th Streets. After he stopped in the parking lot, the man exited his vehicle and continued on foot. However, the man was found by officers and arrested not long after leaving the parking lot. Police say they suspect the man to have been under the influence at the time of the crash.
Medical personnel who responded to the collision stated that the woman was found at the accident scene with severe trauma. Sadly, she passed away due to the severity of her injuries.
DUI and Liability
When a person is found to have been intoxicated during a car accident, they are considered negligent and at fault for the crash. This means that drunk drivers can be held responsible for paying for financial and emotional damages that they caused. However, DUI drivers aren’t the only parties that may be liable. Often, businesses that improperly supplied alcohol or a private party that knowingly gave the drunk driver access to a vehicle can be liable as well.

Because of this, people are often overwhelmed and can sometimes feel suffocated by grief. However, the people responsible for the accident typically don’t have to deal with the same emotional issues and are wholly focused on disclaiming responsibility for their actions.
