Three-Year-Old Hurt in Alleged DUI Crash in Calistoga

On Tuesday, July 21, 2020, a three-year-old child and a 31-year-old woman suffered injuries during an alleged DUI crash in Calistoga. California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicated that this accident only involved one vehicle and happened shortly after midnight on a highway intersection just outside of Calistoga city limits. According to reports, both parties were expected to recover from their injuries. The accident is under a CHP investigation at this time.

Crash Details

The collision occurred at around 12:34 a.m. on Highway 128 at the intersection of Tubbs Lane. According to police, a 31-year-old woman from Penngrove was driving a vehicle of unreported make and model on the highway when, for unknown reasons, the car entered the intersection against a stop sign while reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed. While navigating the intersection, the driver apparently lost control of the car, and the vehicle eventually collided with a nearby rock wall.

Response

Emergency responders arrived at the accident site shortly after the collision took place and discovered that both the driver and child passenger were injured. The driver was found with major injuries while the three-year-old reportedly suffered moderate trauma and both parties were hospitalized.

Before releasing the driver into hospital custody, CHP officers placed her under arrest on charges related to driving under the influence.

Children and Car Accident Injuries

Young children are particularly vulnerable in the event of a serious vehicle accident and have a higher risk of suffering from major injuries. While children are often able to heal quickly, they are also small and have developing bodies. This means that the force of an accident can more easily cause major damage and that development may be affected by their injuries. The effects of a car accident injury on a young child can have a lasting effect on their life, especially if the crash results in chronic issues related to mobility or cognition.

Furthermore, paying for the support that a child needs after suffering a serious injury can be difficult. Often, injured children require extensive medical care, including surgeries as well as physical therapy, medications, and more. Parents may worry about how they will be able to afford the care that their child needs.

Getting Help

While these issues can be very stressful, it is possible to reach out for help. By working with a trusted personal injury lawyer, it’s often possible for families to obtain the payments they need to cover their losses. This can be accomplished through “personal injury claims” that seek to hold negligent parties and/or their insurance companies financially responsible after serious accidents.

However, it’s important to know that your attorney is experienced with major accident cases and has the resources to effectively handle your case. You can learn how to easily find a top-rated attorney by taking a moment to watch this video:
