Woodland Area Highway Crash Kills One, Injures Another

I’m Ed Smith, a Woodland wrongful death lawyer. A man involved in a highway accident north of Woodland lost his life on Saturday, April 7, 2018.

While the man’s identity is currently being withheld by the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office pending his family’s notification, I’d like to express my sincere sympathy towards those who are mourning their loss in this difficult time.

Collision Information

Officials of the Woodland Area California Highway Patrol (CHP) Office stated that the accident took place at approximately 3:48 p.m. on Highway 16 close to the County Road 82 intersection a few miles to the west of the small community of Capay. Reportedly, a man had been traveling westbound on the highway in a white-colored Scion XB when he drifted off of the roadway and onto the highway’s right-hand shoulder.

The driver then veered left back onto the highway and traveled across all traffic lanes before entering the path of an oncoming silver-colored Toyota Prius. The two vehicles collided head-on at high speeds, causing significant damages to both cars.

Further details about what happened after the vehicles collided have not been reported.

Response and Injuries

Emergency response officials called to the accident scene found the driver of the Scion with life-threatening injuries and immediately had him transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment. However, officials reported, the man succumbed to his injuries and passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The driver of the Prius, who was also not identified, was discovered to have suffered serious injuries during the collision and was also rushed to a nearby hospital. Updates on the woman’s condition have not been made available.

Investigation

CHP investigators are currently attempting to identify the causal factors related to this collision. While no investigation information has been made public so far, accident factors that may have been involved include common elements such as medical issues, defective car parts, driving while distracted, dangerous roadway conditions, poor visibility, and more.

Individuals with information regarding this accident have been asked by CHP to aid in the accident investigation by calling Officer E. Coronel at the non-emergency number (530) 662-4685.

Another Recent Woodland Fatality

This accident marks the second major accident fatality in the Woodland area this year. The first fatality collision occurred on January 7, 2018, when a vehicle occupied by five individuals collided head-on with a wrong way driver. The accident happened at around 12:30 in the morning on Highway I-5 and all six individuals involved in the incident received fatal injuries as a result.
