Chico Woman Dies in Bicycle Accident
A Chico woman tragically passed away after being involved in a bicycle accident on Sunday, May 24, 2020. The Butte County Sheriff’s Department has identified the decedent as 63-year-old Diane Ruby. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers said that the collision involved a motor vehicle and took place in the area of Butte Meadows. Ruby was reportedly the only person injured during the incident. Additionally, this accident remains under police investigation.
Crash Details
The crash happened at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Humboldt Road, not far from the intersection located at Malloy Creek Trail. Ruby had been riding her bike on the road near another cyclist. After conducting preliminary investigations, police indicated that a Honda CRV suddenly slowed in order to avoid the second cyclist. As a result, the vehicle entered into Ruby’s path. Ruby reportedly tried to swerve away from the vehicle in order to avoid an accident, but lost control of her bike and collided into the Honda.
Emergency responders arriving at the scene of the accident found Ruby with critical injuries and had her transported immediately to the Enloe Medical Center. Sadly, she passed away in hospital custody not long after arrival.
Investigation
As police look into what could have caused this collision, investigating officers have indicated that they do not currently suspect drugs, alcohol, or speeding to have been involved. Common causes of bicycle/vehicle accidents include a large variety of factors, many of which aren’t under the control of cyclists or drivers. These kinds of factors include defective bike or car parts, hazardous roads, and more.
Accidents and Grief
Families dealing with a sudden loss of life often experience intense grief and may even feel shocked and unable to process what happened. During the first stages of grief, it’s common for people to feel intense emotions that can change rapidly, leaving many feeling overwhelmed and incapable of keeping up with their jobs, social lives, chores, and other normal activities.
Because fatal accidents can be traumatic, it is very important for grieving people to practice self-care and do what they can to help themselves cope. Many grieving people are able to find comfort in the support of their loved ones, friends, and community. Getting Help
While deadly accidents cause a lot of emotional pain, they can also cause serious financial issues. Households suffering a loss of life may suddenly lose their main source of income. In many cases, families no longer have access to services that their loved ones used to perform, like cooking, home maintenance, and childcare. These services can be expensive to replace and difficult or impossible to keep up with by yourself, especially if you are grieving.
For these reasons, it’s vital to get in touch with a Chico personal injury lawyer with ample experience handling wrongful death cases. A good attorney will be able to help your family obtain the compensation that you deserve for your economic and personal damages. To learn more about your specific wrongful death case, it’s best to talk personally to an expert attorney.
