Benicia Motorcyclist Suffers Major Trauma During Highway 37 Crash
On Friday, November 20, 2020, a Benicia motorcyclist sustained serious injuries following a collision that took place on Highway 37 in Sonoma County. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers reported that this accident happened in the early evening and involved three vehicles, including the motorcycle. The cause of this crash is still being investigated.
Incident Details
CHP states that the crash happened at 4:50 p.m. on the eastbound side of Highway 37. The Benicia man was driving a motorcycle east on the highway between lanes while traveling at a speed of around 13 miles per hour. While the motorcyclist was lane-splitting, a silver Toyota Tacoma pickup truck being driven by a Napa resident suddenly made a lane-changing maneuver as stopped traffic began to move forward.
The motorcyclist reportedly attempted to apply his brakes to avoid the pickup, but ultimately crashed into the left-hand side of the Tacoma. The force of the initial crash sent the motorcycle into a second Toyota pickup truck before the motorcyclist finally fell to the ground.
Response
Emergency response officials were dispatched to the scene after it was reported to CHP. When responders found the motorcyclist, they determined that he had suffered a significant head injury and had him driven to the Sonoma Valley Hospital via ambulance. Hospital staff have reported that the motorcyclist was expected to survive his injuries. Additionally, no other individuals suffered trauma as a result of this crash.
Investigation
Police implemented traffic controls at the accident site while collision response was underway. The crash scene remained controlled while officers conducted preliminary investigations of the scene.
While CHP officials continue their investigation, officers haven’t released a full report regarding involved accident factors. Often, collisions like this one occur because of multiple causes. Furthermore, it’s common that accident factors aren’t driver-related. Things like defective motorcycle parts or poor roadway design are things that motorists simply cannot control.
Traumatic Brain Injuries
When car accident survivors sustain head trauma, there’s a serious risk of brain injury. Traumatic brain injuries can have far-reaching effects on your life and are liable to cause a very wide range of symptoms. Some of the more serious symptoms include:
- Chronic headaches
- Loss of smell/taste
- Severe dizziness
- Difficulty speaking
- Seizures
- Insomnia
- Partial paralysis
- Issues with memory
In many cases, these symptoms are very difficult for survivors to deal with. Furthermore, these symptoms can make it hard for survivors to continue working, resulting in lost income. No longer having an income source often makes affording proper medical care difficult or even impossible.
Getting Help
These issues can feel overwhelming, but injured motorcyclists can reach out for assistance from an expert lawyer. With the help of a Benicia motorcycle accident attorney, crash survivors are frequently able to claim payments that fully cover their economic and personal losses.
