Accident Rates in the Bay Area Increasing
Over the last few years, the Bay Area has become a more and more dangerous place to drive – and this is not solely exclusive to motorists. Pedestrians and bicyclists on the streets are also facing higher injury and death rates. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) released an official data collection report showing a shocking 43 percent increase from 2010 to 2016 in the number of traffic accidents involving vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians in the Bay Area.
Population size may contribute as a factor in the increased number of accidents over these years as there is a high percentage of commuters traveling to and from the Bay Area on a daily basis. However, MTC data proves otherwise and reported that the primary cause of these accidents is human error. MTC data analysis revealed some of the top factors that were overwhelmingly prevalent:
The good news about the primary causal factor being a human mistake is that we can put this under our control by making an effort to make better driving decisions.
