Chico Trucking Crash Injures One

According to local reports, a major auto accident was reported in Chico on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Authorities at the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the collision involved two vehicles, a pickup truck and a large, commercial big-rig. The accident reportedly took place on an area highway and left a 50-year-old Chico man with serious injuries. The injured man was taken to a nearby hospital to be given medical treatment. However, updates on the injured man’s condition have not yet been made available by hospital staff. The accident is still being investigated by CHP, who hope to determine what causal factors caused the collision.

Crash Details

According to CHP Officer Logan Callahan, the collision happened at around 11:40 a.m. on Highway 99 to the north of Chico. The Chico man had been driving east on Esplanade in a black-colored Chevy pickup truck when, according to officers, his vehicle failed to yield to traffic at the Highway 99 intersection. As the pickup entered the intersection, a 2018 Peterbilt semi-truck that had been driving south on Highway 99 struck the smaller vehicle’s driver’s side.

Response

Emergency response teams were sent out by CHP as soon as the crash was reported to their dispatch center. When response staff arrived, they discovered the pickup driver had sustained major trauma. The man was immediately rushed by ambulance to the Enloe medical center. Reports indicated that the big-rig driver, a 63-year-old Red Bluff man, did not suffer any injuries during the accident. Additionally, no other people or vehicles were involved in the crash.

Investigation

According to Callahan, the reason that the pickup failed to yield to highway traffic is not yet understood by investigators. At the time of reporting, investigators had not been able to take a statement from the injured Chevy driver. Callahan said that, while it is too early to know what factors were involved in the crash, rainy weather may have played a role.

Factors that are commonly involved in accidents like this one include vehicle part malfunctions, hazardous roadways, reckless driving behaviors, medical emergencies, and more.

Trucking Accidents

Car accident injuries can be very serious, and the trauma sustained in crashes involving large trucks are often even worse. These injuries often require expensive medical treatments as well as long-term therapy and care. Additionally, recovering from an injury can also mean no longer being able to continue working, which puts many accident survivors in a very difficult financial situation. While most people are able to claim payments for their injuries, trucking companies are normally quick to act and immediately begin defending themselves from liability. For this reason, contacting a Chico personal injury lawyer right away is vital if you have been injured in a crash involving a big rig.
