Chico Woman Fatally Injured in Area Car Crash

A 29-year-old Chico woman tragically lost her life in a car accident that occurred on Thursday, March 26, 2020. The crash happened in the very early morning inside of Chico city limits and involved only one vehicle. The Chico Police Department (CPD) is currently conducting an official investigation into possible collision factors.

Crash Details

The accident occurred at the intersection of Skyway and Notre Dame Boulevard at around 1:15 a.m. outside of the Butte College Skyway Center. The woman had been driving a red Honda sedan at around 40 miles per hour on Skyway when her vehicle entered a left turn. As the driver negotiated the turn, she apparently lost control of her vehicle and traveled off the road, eventually colliding head-on with a retaining wall on the outskirts of the intersection. Pictures taken at the scene of the accident show extreme damage to the Honda’s front end.

Responders were sent to the scene directly after CPD was notified. When they reached the site of the crash, they discovered that the woman had suffered major trauma. Tragically, she lost her life on-site. No other individuals were reportedly harmed as a result of the incident.

Investigation

CPD shut down westbound lanes of Skyway in the area for over three hours while accident response and preliminary investigation of the scene were underway. As their investigation continues, police say that they are unsure of what may have caused the accident. CPD has asked for public help with their investigation and urges accident witnesses or anyone with information about the collision to contact them at (530) 897-4970.

Fatal Accidents and Private Investigation

While police do their best to investigate deadly accidents, it can be difficult for officers to fully understand what happened if they are unable to get testimony from any of the involved parties. Unfortunately, this often means that police don’t notice key evidence during their investigation of the accident. When this happens, it can prevent family members from claiming the compensation that they deserve for their losses.

The best way to make sure that the crash is investigated to the fullest extent possible is to get in touch with a Chico wrongful death attorney. An experienced lawyer can use their skills and resources to privately look into possible accident factors and ensure your family receives the payments that they need.
