Chico Woman Killed in Pedestrian Accident
On Friday, November 20, 2020, a pedestrian tragically passed away after being injured during a pedestrian-involved car crash in Cohasset. The woman has since been identified by Butte County officials as Brittany Bass, a 29-year-old Chico resident. According to details reported by California Highway Patrol (CHP), Bass was the only individual injured during the collision, and the incident remains under investigation.
Crash Information
CHP reports that the accident occurred at around 8:50 a.m. on a rural road between Cohasset and Richardson Springs. Few details regarding the circumstances of this accident have been reported. However, officers indicated that Bass had been a pedestrian and was struck by a passenger vehicle.
Directly after the crash, police were notified about what happened. Dispatchers immediately sent responders out to the scene. When they reached the crash location, medical officials found Bass lying in the road and determined that she had sustained severe injuries. Tragically, she was pronounced deceased at the site.
Investigation
According to police, the 54-year-old driver of the car involved in this accident remained at the scene and cooperated as officers conducted preliminary investigations. So far, police involved with the investigation haven’t said what, if any, factors are suspected to have contributed to causing this accident.
Often, pedestrian-involved accidents occur because of more than one factor and many common causes are things that neither pedestrians nor drivers have any control over. Such factors include dangerously designed roads or poorly built vehicle parts.
Attorneys and Private Investigations
Accident investigation can be a difficult job for police when they aren’t able to interview involved parties about what happened. Without the perspective of the decedent, it’s possible that police won’t fully understand what took place and may never notice critical evidence, leaving families unable to take legal action.
To ensure your family is able to obtain the payments that they deserve, it is very important to work with a Chico wrongful death lawyer who knows how to privately investigate fatal accidents. By doing so, you’ll make sure that a skilled professional is committing their resources to investigate the crash with your family as a priority.
What Can my Family Recover?
Fatal accidents have far-reaching effects on the lives of families. Not only is suddenly losing somebody you love incredibly painful, but it can leave you and your family financially insecure. Often, fatal accidents leave households without their main income source or without access to important services that their loved one used to perform, like childcare or cleaning.
However, families are often able to recover from these losses through wrongful death claims. Not only are families able to seek compensation for economic losses, but wrongful death claims can provide compensation for personal suffering as well. Altogether, these payments can help families have security and confidence during a very difficult time.
