Clearlake Man Dies During Highway 29 Auto Accident
On Thursday, December 17, 2020, a man from Clearlake suffered fatal injuries after being involved in a Highway 20 auto accident. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the incident happened during the evening and involved a passenger vehicle as well as a big-rig. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is waiting to release the decedent’s name until his family has been notified. No other individuals suffered injuries during this collision.
Crash Information
The accident happened at approximately 5:52 p.m. on Highway 29 at the intersection of C Street in the Twin Lakes area. Police stated that a Clearlake man was driving a 2001 Peterbilt big-rig with a flatbed trailer on C Street and was preparing to make a turn in order to enter Highway 29. At the same time, a Toyota Corolla was heading Northbound on Highway 29, approaching the intersection.
As the truck performed the turn, the Corolla crashed into the rear of the big rig’s trailer, causing extreme damage to the smaller vehicle.
Response to Highway 29 Auto Accident
The incident was reported to CHP via phone and dispatchers rushed an emergency response crew to the accident site directly after. Upon reaching the scene, responders found that the Corolla driver had sustained severe injuries. Tragically, the individual passed away on-scene. The driver of the big-rig, as well as his juvenile passenger, were both uninjured.
Investigation
CHP reports that their officers are investigating the cause of this accident, but haven’t indicated any suspected factors so far. In many cases, collisions occur because of things not under driver or trucker control. These kinds of accident factors include malfunctioning truck parts, dangerous roads, and more.
Furthermore, the job of investigating a fatal accident can be a very difficult one. If police can’t question the decedent about what occurred, it’s possible that they will never fully understand the causes of the incident. Unfortunately, this can leave families without the ability to obtain the compensation that they truly deserve for their losses. To prevent this, it is best to work with a skilled Clearlake wrongful death lawyer who has ample experience conducting their own accident investigations.
Calling an Attorney
Families who are affected by fatal accidents can face serious challenges. In many cases, they’ve lost their main income source or no longer have access to critical services. Thankfully, it’s possible to file a wrongful death claim in order to seek compensation for these losses.
However, trucking companies frequently take quick and aggressive action to avoid paying families the compensation they deserve. For this reason, it’s crucial to reach out to a lawyer as soon as you are able. If your lawyer is able to begin working right away, they’ll be more able to protect your family’s right to fair compensation.
