Corning Cyclist Severely Injured During Auto Accident

Recently, a Corning cyclist was severely injured after his bicycle was struck by a passenger vehicle. According to Red Bluff Area California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident happened on the southern edge of Corning not far from Highway Interstate 5. The collision involved the cyclist and a single vehicle with two occupants, neither of whom suffered an injury during the incident.

Accident Information

CHP reports stated that the crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. A 41-year-old Corning man had been riding his bicycle on the right-hand shoulder heading east on South Avenue when, for reasons investigators say they do not currently understand, he attempted to perform a left turn. As the cyclist turned, he entered the path of an eastbound 2006 Acura driven by a 53-year-old woman from Chico.

According to police, the vehicle was traveling at around 40-50 miles per hour when it collided with the broadside of the cyclist. The cyclist was reportedly thrown far off his bike as a result of the impact.

Response

Response officials were dispatched to the site immediately after police were notified about the crash. When they arrived, responders determined that the cyclist had suffered a major head injury and called for a helicopter ambulance. The roadway was closed at approximately 3:45 p.m. in order to make room for the helicopter, and the man was rushed to the Enloe Medical Center to be given treatment. Updates on his condition have not yet been provided by hospital officials.

Investigation

Police kept the roadway closed while they conducted initial investigations of the collision scene. However, an investigation into this crash is ongoing, and no suspected factors have been reported. CHP has asked anyone with information about the incident call to (530) 527-2034 to report what they know to investigating officers.

Traumatic Brain Injuries

Suffering blunt force trauma to the head is very likely to cause a traumatic brain injury. These types of injuries are very serious and can lead to a wide variety of challenging symptoms. In many cases, the effects of a traumatic brain injury change people’s lives. Because brain tissue takes a very long time to heal, recovery can take months or even years, depending on the severity of the injury. In the worst cases, a brain injury can leave crash survivors with symptoms that affect them for their entire lives.

Not only is recovering from a brain injury often both physically and emotionally difficult, but suffering such a serious injury can be very costly. Families are often left with a massive amount of medical bills for surgeries, hospital rooms, ambulance rides, medications, therapy, and more. On top of this, many people with brain injuries need to make changes to their homes and may no longer be able to perform their jobs.

Worrying about these issues while you or your loved one is in the hospital can be overwhelming, but survivors can get assistance by reaching out to a trustworthy personal injury lawyer in their area. An attorney will be able to help you obtain payments for the full range of personal and financial damages you have suffered by pursuing personal injury claims against insurance companies and negligent parties.
