Multiple Injuries in Fatal Corning Area Crash
Officers from California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a serious accident happened on Monday, February 25, 2019, in the Corning area. The crash involved two vehicles and left five people with non-fatal injuries ranging from major to minor. Among the injured individuals was a 7-year-old girl who suffered serious trauma. The identity of the deceased man is being withheld by Tehama County officials. The man was identified only as a 20-year-old resident of the small community of Vina. The crash remains under investigation by CHP authorities. I’d like to send my sympathy to those who’ve lost somebody they love because of this terrible accident.
Crash Details
According to police, the Vina man had been driving in a 2001 Honda and was heading east on South Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. The Honda driver attempted to pass another vehicle west of Michigan Avenue. While attempting to pass the second vehicle, the driver reportedly failed to see a 2004 Nissan in the westbound roadway lane. The driver of the Nissan attempted to avoid the Honda by pulling over to the roadway shoulder. However, the two vehicles ultimately collided in the westbound lane.
Response
Emergency staff was immediately dispatched to the crash site. Responders found that the driver of the Nissan, a 32-year-old woman from Corning, had suffered major injuries. She was placed on an ambulance and taken to the Enloe Medical Center in Chico. A 7-year-old girl who had been in the Nissan also suffered major injuries. The girl was flown by helicopter to the Sacramento UC Davis Medical Center. Her condition has not been reported by hospital staff. Three other passengers in the Nissan, aged 4, 11, and 13, all suffered minor injuries and received treatment at Enloe.
Tragically, the driver of the Honda was discovered with critical injuries. The man could not recover from his trauma and was declared deceased on-site.
Investigation
The roadway was closed from the time of the accident to about 8:00 p.m. During the shutdown, officers responded to the scene and searched the area for evidence. While an investigation into the crash continues, police have not yet stated what factors, if any, they suspect to have caused the accident. According to reports, the Honda was towed and taken in by police as evidence.
Calling an Attorney
The period of time after a major accident is often very emotionally difficult. Those who’ve been affected by crashes can feel overwhelmed and sometimes find it hard to focus on normal daily tasks. For this reason, many people delay calling an attorney. However, negligent parties are usually quick to begin covering themselves from liability. To make sure that you and your family receive the compensation you deserve, it’s best to contact a lawyer as soon as possible. Most attorneys will offer you a free consultation where you can get valuable information about your specific case.
