Motorcycle Accidents in South Lake Tahoe

Agencies including the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and local police department indicated that there were 490 traumatic crashes in the city of South Lake Tahoe between 2008 and 2020. Out of these crashes, 37 (or 7.1 percent) involved a motorcycle. These motorcycle collisions caused 38 injuries and two deaths. According to the data, 68 percent of these crashes happened on a highway within the city and the rest occurred on municipal roads.

El Dorado County Motorcycle Accidents

While the city itself had a number of motorcycle accidents, there were many more on area roads just outside of South Lake Tahoe. Across El Dorado County, 1,123 out of 8,081 crashes involved motorcycles, meaning that motorcycle accidents accounted for about 14 percent of collisions in the county. Countywide, motorcycle accidents caused 1,231 injuries as well as 52 deaths. Unlike within South Lake Tahoe, these accidents occurred mostly on city or county roads, while around 37 percent happened on state highways.

All other violations were the cause of less than five percent of the accidents in question. Less common factors included unsafe lane changing, tailgating, and more.
