discovery bay car accident

Head-On Brentwood Collision Kills Discovery Bay Man. Recently, a head-on car accident left one man from Discovery Bay with fatal injuries and two others with minor-to-moderate injuries. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials are investigating the crash which took place in Brentwood and involved two vehicles. Two people were stuck inside their car and had to be removed using professional equipment. Both vehicles were majorly damaged.

I would like to take this time to extend my prayers and well wishes to all the victim’s family and friends that are grieving over the tragic loss that resulted from this accident.

Accident Details

Firefighters from the East Contra Consta Fire Protection District (ECCFPD) responded to a call reporting the head-on incident shortly before 3:30 p.m. They arrived at the collision site located at the intersection of Diablo Lane and Chestnut Street.

According to a released CHP statement, a green Ford Explorer was traveling eastwards along Chestnut Street in an unincorporated region of Brentwood at about 3:20 p.m. The Ford driver, an unnamed 25-year old male from Brentwood, attempted to pass a green Toyota Tacoma coming up from behind but instead, the two cars collided. Both vehicles were totaled, and the accident is still under investigation by officials. After speaking with multiple eyewitnesses at the scene, investigators do not think drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.

Injuries Reported

After the first of three fire engines arrived, emergency responders found the Ford overturned and one occupant outside sitting next to it. According to ECCFPD District Battalion Chief Jeff Burris, the Ford driver sustained minor injuries and was taken via ambulance to Walnut Creek’s John Muir Medical Center. The man is expected to overcome his injuries.

The Toyota was discovered by firefighters with two people stuck inside of it. Firefighters were able to use equipment to safely extricate the pair from the car. The driver of the Toyota, 72-year old Robert Fellows of Discovery Bay, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, identified as Fellows’ 70-year old wife, was flown to a nearby trauma center for her moderate injuries. Officials said her injuries were not considered to be life-threatening. No update on her condition is currently available.
