DUI Major Injury Crash Near Stevinson
I’m Ed Smith, a Turlock personal injury lawyer. A three-vehicle collision took place near Stevinson during the evening hours of Sunday, July 2, 2017. Unfortunately, the car accident caused multiple victims to suffer traumatic injuries.
What Happened?
A 38-year-old Hilmar man was behind the wheel of his 2008 Honda Civic traveling eastbound along Highway 140 in the vicinity of Howard Road at approximately 10:20 pm. At the same time, a 46-year-old Los Banos woman was driving her 2016 Toyota Prius westbound along Highway 140. The Hilmar man allegedly allowed his vehicle to drift into the westbound lane, striking the Toyota head-on. A 32-year-old woman was traveling in the westbound lane in her Chevrolet Silverado attempted to swerve her vehicle to avoid the accident ahead, but it was unfortunately too late. The Chevrolet struck the Honda, resulting in a serious three-vehicle collision.
Was Anybody Injured?
The motorists of the Chevrolet Silverado and the Toyota Prius both complained of pain. However, the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado declined medical treatment. The woman driving the Toyota Prius and her 16-year-old passenger were both taken to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto to receive treatment for their injuries. The 16-year-old passenger suffered internal injuries and a broken arm. The man driving the Honda Civic suffered a pelvic fracture, broken leg and internal injuries. He was scheduled to undergo surgery the following morning. The 11-year-old front seat passenger of the Honda Civic suffered a broken leg and was transported via air ambulance to the Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera. Officials reported that all parties were expected to recover from their injuries.
What Caused the Accident?
Authorities have not yet released an exact cause of the car accident. It usually takes seven to ten days for a Traffic Collision Report to be processed. According to a preliminary report released by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), it was stated that the motorist of the Honda Civic was driving under the influence of alcohol moments before the crash. Traffic reports can sometimes be in error or inconclusive when determining fault. It is crucial, especially when someone has suffered major injuries, to contact an experienced Turlock personal injury lawyer who can conduct a thorough investigation of the crash scene and study the sequence of events leading up to the accident to pinpoint liability.
