Eureka Crash Hospitalizes Woman

I’m Ed Smith, and I am a Eureka car accident lawyer. On Monday, August 7, 2017, a two-vehicle collision in Eureka left one woman with traumatic injuries, prompting her to be transported to a nearby hospital. Further information about this accident can be read in the following article.

Accident Details

According to responding officers of Eureka Police Department (EPD), the accident occurred just prior to 10:00 a.m. on the 4100 block of the city’s main road, Broadway Street. Reportedly, a silver Chevy Trailblazer had been making a left turn into the parking lot of a tire store when an oncoming black Dodge Dart that had been driving north on Broadway Street collided with the right-hand rear-end of the Trailblazer.

After the initial impact, the Chevy came to rest in the tire store’s parking lot and the Dodge kept on going for a short distance and came to a stop in Broadway’s right-hand turn lane.

Response and Injuries

EPD dispatched first responders to the accident after receiving reports that there may have been injured parties. When responders got to the crash site, they discovered that the driver of the Dodge had sustained injuries. The driver was put on a stretcher and taken to a hospital by ambulance for treatment. Witnesses of the incident reported that the woman was conscious when put in the ambulance.

The juvenile passenger riding in the Dodge, as well as the driver of the Chevy, sustained no injuries as a result of the accident. Furthermore, no additional persons or vehicles were reportedly involved.

Investigation

EPD is currently investigating this accident and has not stated if they have any suspicions of DUI being involved. Factors that may have contributed to this collisions include driving at unsafe speeds, a medical emergency, unsafe road conditions, driving while distracted, and more.

Rear-End Collisions

The Washington Post recently reported that about 1.7 million rear-end accidents happen on U.S. roads every year. In these collisions, an estimated 1,700 people lose their lives and another 500,000 sustain injuries, some of them life-changing.

In Eureka, rear-end crashes are the second most-common type of crash to cause people injury and have accounted for 23.27 of Eureka’s injury crashes over the previous four years. Rear-end collisions were only preceded in frequency by broadside accidents, which caused 43.44 percent of injury accidents in Eureka.

Another Recent Eureka Collision

The above accident occurred not long after another traumatic collision in Eureka which occurred on Tuesday, August 1, 2017. This accident involved a pedestrian who was hit by an oncoming vehicle at the intersection of Broadway and Henderson Streets at about 10 p.m. The collision was determined by authorities to have been a case of driving under the influence and left the pedestrian with a moderate ankle injury.
