Fairfield Motorcyclist Injured During Auto Accident
Police stated that a local man suffered injuries during an accident that took place in Fairfield on Monday, July 15, 2019. Officers of the Fairfield Police Department (FPD) reported that the collision involved a motorcycle and a small SUV. Updates from medical officials indicated that the motorcyclist, identified as a 34-year-old Fairfield man, suffered life-threatening injuries during the crash and was in critical condition at the time of reporting. Crash Information
FPD Lt. Jausiah Jacobsen stated that the accident happened at around 7:45 p.m. on North Texas Street. A motorcyclist had been driving southbound on North Texas when a northbound SUV performed a left turn to enter Oak Street. The SUV entered the path of the motorcyclist, who was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision. Police stated that the 76-year-old Ohio man driving the SUV stopped his vehicle and remained at the accident scene.
Police sent out emergency responders right after receiving notification of the accident. Upon arriving, medical officials found the motorcyclist had been seriously injured during the collision. The man was placed on a ground ambulance and rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care. The driver of the SUV was reportedly not injured as a result of the crash.
Investigation
Police closed North Texas Street between Oak and Wisconsin Streets while accident response was underway. The roadway remained closed while RPD investigators surveyed the scene of the accident for evidence. So far, police have not determined what factors caused the accident, but have stated that speeding may have been involved. Police have stated that they have not been able to speak with the injured cyclist in order to take a statement regarding the incident.
