Fatal Car Accidents in Napa
I’m Ed Smith, a Napa wrongful death lawyer. As the hub of California’s wine industry and one of the most popular vacation destinations in the state, Napa is a bustling city with a lot going on. However, such a lively environment means a lot of vehicle traffic, and traffic always comes with the risk of car accidents that can potentially cause serious and even fatal injuries. While car accidents are usually unexpected and can happen anywhere, knowing when and where accidents are likely to occur can reduce your chance of being involved in one. Those living in Napa may want to know these helpful statistics about the fatal vehicle accidents that take place in their area.
Accidents Overview
Data from research conducted by the University of California at Berkeley shows that 3,569 traumatic car accidents took place on Napa City roadways during the twelve years between the beginning of 2006 and the end of 2017. Out of these traumatic crashes, only 22 involved fatal injuries. This means that 0.62 percent of injury accidents within the city of Napa are fatal. This is much lower than the rate of fatal accidents for the county as a whole, for which 1.53 percent of injury collisions involved a fatality.
Accident Locations
Some locations can be more dangerous than others. Certain intersections and stretches of road can have problems such as poor design, pavement defects, or bad visibility that lead to a higher rate of accidents. In Napa, these locations saw a high number of fatal crashes over the last twelve years:
- Redwood Road at Solano Avenue
- Silverado Trail near Hagen Road
- Redwood Road near Linda Vista Avenue
- Highway 29 south between Laurel Street and Napa Valley Road
Accident Times
By far, the most common time period for fatal accidents to take place in Napa City is from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Fridays. Fatal accidents also occurred more frequently on weekends, with an average increase of around 250 percent during Friday-Sunday.
Violations
Crashes aren’t always caused by traffic violations and can be the fault of bad vehicle parts, faulty roads, and other factors. However, the vast majority of accidents involve a traffic violation. The violations that most commonly caused fatal accidents in Napa were:
- Driving or Bicycling While Intoxicated
- Pedestrian Violations
- Improper Turning
- Traffic Sign Violations
Wrongful Death
The loss of a loved one can be emotionally devastating. Those in the process of grieving are often very stressed and dealing with the legal aspects of claiming compensation from reckless drivers can seem far away. However, calling a wrongful death lawyer as soon as you are able can make a big difference.
Having an experienced attorney representing you can keep liable parties from obscuring evidence and disclaiming responsibility. A good lawyer is able to take care of all the deadlines, paperwork, and negotiations involved in your case while you focus on spending time with your loved ones and healing emotionally.
