Fatal Yuba County Crash
I’m Ed Smith, a Marysville car accident lawyer. A fatal collision took place in Yuba County near Marysville on Sunday, June 10, 2018. Authorities have said that the accident involved a single vehicle and that two people were left with fatal trauma as a result of the crash. Additionally, California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that an infant boy who had been in the vehicle at the time of the accident received injuries. The fatally injured persons were identified as 31-year-old Jennifer Coffey and 27-year-old Ilya Koloyartsev, both residents of the city of Oregon House. My condolences are sent out to Koloyarstev and Coffey’s loved ones during this difficult time.
Accident Details
Officers of CHP reported that Koloyartsev had been driving a Subaru Outback on Marysville Road to the west of Yuba Ranch Way in the area of Dobbins. Just prior to 6:00 p.m., the vehicle veered off of the roadway for unknown reasons. After the vehicle left the road, it traveled a short distance before colliding head-on with a large tree. No other vehicles were reported to have been involved in the crash.
Response
After receiving a call notifying them about the wreck, CHP dispatched medics and officers to the accident scene. Responders reported that both Koloyartsev and Coffey were found with major injuries. Tragically, the two were pronounced deceased at the site of the crash.
The one-year-old boy found in the backseat of the vehicle reportedly suffered moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to the U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento to be given emergency care. Updates on the child’s condition were not available as of Wednesday, June 13, 2018. Additionally, responders reported that the child had been properly secured in a car seat at the time of the accident.
Investigation
CHP authorities have stated that they do not know what factors caused this collision, but have noted that driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol is being investigated as a possible factor. However, crashes such as this one are commonly caused by many different factors such as medical emergencies, defective car parts, hazards in the roadway, and more.
Recoverable Damages
When a person loses their life in an auto accident, their family members and/or dependents are often able to claim payments for damages related to their loss. The types of losses that are able to be recovered are various and include both financial and emotional damages. Depending on the specific case, people can recover for things such as loss of inheritance, loss of companionship, medical bills related to the fatal accident, funeral costs, and more.
