Davis Area Highway Crash Causes Major Injuries
On Thursday, May 28, 2020, a Davis area highway crash left three people with serious injuries. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that this accident occurred just east of Davis and involved two vehicles, one of which caught fire as a result of the collision. Updates on the condition of the injured parties have not been reported and the cause of the collision is being investigated by CHP at this time.
Crash Information
The collision occurred on Highway I-80 just past Mace Boulevard near the border of Yolo County. CHP indicated that the accident happened at 2:40 p.m. and involved a black SUV as well as a compact passenger vehicle. Details about how the vehicles collided have not been provided. However, reports stated that the SUV overturned during the crash and that the smaller vehicle caught fire. Wreckage from the accident reportedly blocked all three westbound lanes of the highway, causing a major traffic jam.
Emergency response staff reached the crash site shortly after the incident and found that three people had been seriously hurt. All three individuals were transported to local hospitals for immediate care.
Investigation
As CHP officers continue their investigation, no likely accident factors have been reported. Multi-vehicle accidents can be complicated and may involve more than one causal factor. In many cases, collisions like this one happen due to non-driver factors like defective car parts or hazardous roads.
Rollover Accidents
Rollover collisions often cause major damage to the vehicle’s roof. When vehicle roofs aren’t strong enough, they are likely to cave in, intruding into the vehicle’s occupied space and causing serious injuries. In cases where a crushed roof causes injuries, the vehicle manufacturer is often considered an at-fault party to the crash and can be held financially liable, much like a reckless driver. It’s important to remember to preserve your vehicle after a rollover so that your attorney can determine if the vehicle roof was defective.
Burn Injuries
If a vehicle catches fire during a crash, there’s a serious chance that passengers and/or drivers will suffer burn injuries. Burn injuries can be very painful and often cause permanent tissue damage, leading to impacted mobility or severe scarring. Recovering from a burn injury is likely to involve extensive surgery, which can be very expensive.
