Head-On Collision Fatally Injures Turlock Man

I’m Ed Smith, a Turlock auto accident attorney. A head-on collision occurred on the night of Saturday, August 5, 2017. The accident, sadly, caused a Turlock resident to suffer fatal injuries.

What Happened?

A 27-year-old Turlock man was driving his 2004 Toyota Corolla northbound along Highway 165 in the vicinity of Fowler Road at approximately 10:15 pm. For unknown reasons, the man allegedly allowed his vehicle to drift onto the shoulder. The driver attempted to over-correct his car, which caused the vehicle to spin into the opposing lanes of travel. A 68-year-old Hilmar man was driving his 1988 Chevrolet Silverado southbound along Highway 165 when the Toyota entered in its direct path. The Hilmar man tried to slow down to avoid colliding with the Toyota, but crashed into the right front-end of the vehicle.

Was Anybody Injured?

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado complained of pain but refused medical treatment. The man driving the Toyota Corolla, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Merced County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the victim.

What Caused the Collision?

It is still too soon to determine a cause of the collision. It may take up to two weeks from the date of an accident for authorities to process a Traffic Collision Report. Sometimes a report may contain errors as to fault. It is best to contact an experienced car accident lawyer who can spend more time pinpointing cause.

Head-On Accident Statistics

Head-on accidents are among the most serious type of motor vehicle collisions. The reason for this originates from the force of impact, which can double due to the speed traveled by each involved vehicle. A victim of a collision such as this one may suffer injuries such as:

An Accident Statistic Report for Stanislaus County revealed that there were approximately 242 head-on collisions in 2016 alone. Although these results may be shocking and frightening for some, safety precautions can be used to ensure the safety of you and your loved ones in your vehicle. Always make sure that you and your passengers are properly restrained by a safety belt in your car. Avoid bad driving habits such as texting and driving and drinking and driving to prevent yourself from being involved in a serious car accident. If you have suffered injuries in an accident, contact an experienced Turlock auto accident attorney.
