Highway Accident Near Auburn Results in Serious Trauma
On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at least one person was seriously hurt during a highway accident near Auburn. Information from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) indicates that the collision took place at night, and only one passenger vehicle was involved. The number of people who were hurt and updates on their medical conditions have not been reported, and the crash is still under an active CHP investigation.
Crash Information
According to CHP reports, the accident happened at around 9:55 p.m. on Highway Interstate 80 close to the junction located at Werner Road, a couple miles south of Auburn. A vehicle of unreported make and model was driving westbound on the highway when it veered toward the edge of the road and eventually traveled over a small hill, eventually rolling down an embankment and coming to a stop on its side. Further details about the circumstances of this traumatic crash remain unavailable.
Response
Police were alerted to the accident after a survivor exited the vehicle and walked to the road to flag down help. Responders were dispatched to the scene at 10:01 p.m., and officers arrived at the location of the crash at 10:07 p.m. Police reaching the crash site found that serious injuries had been sustained and called for fire crews and paramedics. Medical responders at the location had at least one person transported to a hospital by ambulance.
Investigation
While the investigation into the cause of this crash continues, there haven’t been any reports regarding possible collision factors. It’s common for single-vehicle accidents to have more than one cause and many collision factors are things that lie outside of motorist control. Crash factors that drivers have no control over include driving on roads with damaged asphalt or using vehicles that have poorly built parts.
Rollovers and Manufacturer Liability
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that rollover collisions are more likely than most accidents to result in severe and/or fatal injuries. This is due to a number of factors, but one of the key reasons that these collisions are so dangerous is weak roofs.
If a car’s roof is made of weak material or is not designed properly, it won’t be able to keep occupants safe and may crumple when force is applied during a rollover, leading to “roof crush injuries,” which tend to be serious. In the case of a roof crush injury, the company that manufactured the vehicle may share responsibility for the accident, and survivors can often hold them accountable for damages. However, your lawyer has to be able to prove that the car’s roof was improperly built. For this reason, you should make sure to preserve your wrecked vehicle as evidence.
