Visiting Kelseyville in the Fall Foliage Season

Temperatures may cool down in the fall, but the area in Lake County becomes a hotspot for the unlimited colors of fall foliage. Kelseyville is one of Lake County’s best towns to see the glorious colors of the changing leaves.

Kelseyville is a beautiful family-friendly community. The region is a blend of rural and resort, with lakeside lodges and low-slung bungalow residences nearby.

Clear Lake State Park

Not far from Kelseyville is Clear Lake, the oldest lake in North America. The change in seasons at the lake is so engaging that it never gets old. On the grounds of the lake is the preserved Clear Lake State Park, a haven for fishing and watersports. It also offers overnight camping, cabins, and several hiking trails that wind through the woods. In the fall, the park displays a panoramic color of changing leaves from its oak trees.

Cobb Mountain

To see the stunning fall colors from above, head up to Cobb Mountain, located south of Lake County. The mountain bursts with dogwoods and maple trees, colorfully displaying the arrival of fall. Some of the towns along the drive to Cobb Mountain have names like Pine Grove and Whispering Pines. Their evergreen pine trees offer a stunning contrast to the shades of gold and burgundy of the trees with changing leaves.

Downtown Kelseyville

Also known as the “Pear Capital of the World,” Kelseyville spends its autumn harvesting pears against a stunning backdrop of color-turning leaves. Once the pears have been harvested, the trees glow a vibrant yellow, turning the pear-tree-lined sidewalks of Kelseyville into streets of gold.

Downtown Kelseyville is a quintessential small town with one Main Street that runs through it. It is a cute little artsy town with antique stores, restaurants, and art galleries. There are great places to stop for a bite, like Saw Shop Public House and Pogo’s Pizza. The brewery makes some good seltzer’s too.

Sip in Kelseyville

Enjoy a fall wine country experience. Begin your journey on foot by tasting your way through downtown Kelseyville. With numerous wine tasting rooms to choose from, you don’t have to walk too far to taste some of California’s finest wines.

To taste what Kelseyville offers, visit the local tasting rooms at Chacewater in the hills and Laujor Estate south of town.

Further up, the Red Hills AVA sits at the northern edge of the Mayacamas Mountains. The vineyard encompasses Kelseyville and includes several high-elevation growing regions that produce quality Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and other varietals.

No matter the season, it’s safe to say Kelseyville is a charming town filled with local beauty and Northern Californian flavor.
