Caltrans Implements Lane Closures and Highway 50 Lane Split
Caltrans has announced that as part of the Fix50 project, a planned lane split will begin on Saturday, July 15, 2023, potentially lasting for several months.
The Caltrans lane split will encompass the stretch from the Watt Avenue exit to the 65th Street exit, while the existing lane split in downtown and midtown will remain unaltered.
The Presence of Traffic Signage
Drivers can anticipate encountering traffic signs before the split, which will provide clear directions for navigating the area. The signage will provide the following instructions:
For drivers heading westbound on US 50 towards downtown Sacramento, it is advised to reduce traffic congestion by remaining in the left two inside bypass lanes at the traffic split.
Motorists planning to exit at Howe Avenue/Sacramento State University while traveling westbound on US 50 must stay in the outer two right lanes at the traffic split.
While construction occurs in the morning and at night, drivers must drive carefully through the work areas.
Lane and Ramp Closures
The department has disclosed the scheduled lane and ramp closures outlined below along US-50.
