Man Dies in Clearlake Area Collision
California Highway Patrol (CHP) has reported that a serious auto accident took place near Clearlake on Monday, February 25, 2019. Officers say that the crash involved two separate vehicles. The accident left one person with serious injuries that ultimately cost him his life. One other person also suffered injuries during the crash. The fatally injured individual has only been identified as a 22-year-old resident of the small community of Kelseyville. The man’s full identity will reportedly be released after his family is notified. I would like to send my sympathies to the mourning loved ones of the man who tragically lost his life in this collision.
Crash Information
According to CHP, the crash took place at about 4:06 p.m. on Highway 101 to the south of Hopland. The Kelseyville man had been driving north on the highway in a 2013 Mercedes traveling north at a speed of about 65 miles per hour. For reasons that are not currently understood, the man lost control of his vehicle. The Mercedes began to skid “out of control” close to Mile Marker 7.4.
After the Mercedes lost control, it crossed over into southbound lanes, entering the path of an oncoming 2001 Toyota. Police say the Toyota was traveling at about 50 miles per hour when the two vehicles collided. The front end of the Toyota reportedly struck the right-hand side of the Mercedes. The Mercedes came to a stop on the southbound highway shoulder while the Toyota stopped in southbound lanes.
Response
Responders arrived at the accident scene and found that the Mercedes driver had been critically injured during the accident. Tragically, the man was declared deceased on-site. The driver of the Toyota, who has been identified as a 21-year-old man from Redwood Valley, was taken to a hospital in Ukiah to receive treatment for what medics called “minor injuries.” There were no other people involved in this accident.
Investigation
CHP investigators are looking into this accident so that they can determine why the Mercedes driver lost control of his vehicle. However, police haven’t reported any suspected factors related to the crash. Crashes such as this one are often caused by factors such as defective auto products, inclement weather, roadway defects, and more.
