Man Suffers Fatal Injuries in Skyway Car Accident
On Monday, April 5, 2021, one person tragically lost his life after suffering injuries during a Skyway car accident outside of Chico. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of the decedent the following day, identifying him as a 23-year-old man from Manteca. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), this was a solo-vehicle accident, and one other individual was injured during the incident.
Crash Information
CHP states that the accident took place at around 4:00 p.m. on New Skyway near the Pentz Road intersection. The Manteca man was reportedly driving in the area when his vehicle approached a curve. For reasons that are still being investigated, the driver apparently lost control, and the car left the road, eventually overturning and rolling down a steep embankment. The car finally came to a stop around 60 feet below the roadway after it crashed into a copse of trees. Photos taken of the wrecked vehicle show that it was almost completely destroyed during the incident.
Response
Directly after they received calls reporting the crash, dispatchers rushed a team of emergency response officials out to the area. On-site, responders discovered that both the driver and passenger of the vehicle were seriously injured. Tragically, the driver was declared deceased while the passenger was driven by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment of severe injuries.
Police indicated that both vehicle occupants had been properly wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. Further details about the crash were not made available. However, officers indicated that a motorcyclist crashed at the same location two weeks ago.
Investigation
CHP reports that officers are still investigating this incident, and police have not stated whether or not they suspect any specific causes. Frequently, solo-vehicle collisions happen due to one or more factors that aren’t the driver’s fault. Things not under driver influence include defective vehicle safety features or parts, damaged or dangerous roads, and more.
Rollovers and Liability
Many rollover accidents involve “roof crush injuries” which happen when the roof of a car can’t keep occupants safe as the vehicle overturns. In cases that involve such injuries, the company that manufactured the car is frequently considered to have been negligent and can be held liable through a wrongful death or personal injury claim. However, to claim compensation for roof crush injuries, your attorney has to prove that the vehicle’s roof wasn’t properly built. To do so, you’ll need to preserve the wrecked car to use as evidence.
