Southern CA Accident Leaves Chico Woman Fatally Injured
On Tuesday, March 2, 2021, a 19-year-old Chico woman tragically lost her life in a crash in El Cajon, CA, just outside of San Diego. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the collision was a chain-reaction event and involved four separate vehicles. Additionally, officers indicated that one other person suffered serious injuries during the accident and that the cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.
Crash Details
The accident happened early in the morning, around 2:50 a.m. on Highway Interstate 8. According to police, the Chico woman was driving a 2003 Toyota Matrix when, for unknown reasons, she crashed into the highway’s center divider. After the crash, the woman exited the vehicle which had come to a stop in the right-most lane of the highway.
The woman was reportedly standing near her disabled vehicle when a 24-year-old man in a 2002 Infiniti struck the wrecked Toyota. The collision pushed the Toyota into the Chico woman and subsequently knocked her into the left lane of the highway. Directly after, she was reportedly run over by two additional vehicles.
Response
Response officials arriving at the scene determined that the young woman was critically injured and tragically pronounced her deceased. The Infiniti driver was discovered with major trauma and rushed to a nearby hospital for emergent medical care. According to hospital staff, the man was expected to survive his injuries. None of the other involved parties sustained injuries, according to reports.
