One Sent to Hospital After Chico Car Crash
On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, one person was sent to the hospital after suffering injuries in a Chico car crash. The crash occurred in the afternoon and, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) traffic information, involved two cars. While more than two people were involved in the accident, only one person was hospitalized. The cause of this crash is currently under investigation by CHP officers.
Crash Information
The crash happened at about 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of Cohasset Road and Esplanade in central Chico just outside of the area Shell gas station. Information about the events that preceded the crash has not been provided by police so far. However, CHP indicated that an SUV and a Honda sedan collided and that the Honda overturned as a result of the impact.
Directly following the accident, CHP received a call reporting the incident and subsequently dispatched emergency responders to the site. At the crash scene, officers found that a woman inside of the Honda had been seriously injured and called for an ambulance to transport her to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Updates on her condition haven’t been released.
Investigation
The roadway was partially shut down to traffic while officials conducted accident response and remained closed for around an hour while police investigated evidence at the scene. While investigations are ongoing, involved officers have not reported suspected factors. Frequently, collisions like this one involve numerous causes and may have been caused by things that were outside of both drivers’ control. Defective or poorly built car parts, as well as dangerously designed roads, often contribute significantly to collisions.
Rollover Collisions
Rollover car crashes cause serious and deadly injuries at a higher rate than most other types of collisions, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. There are a number of factors that influence this, but one of the most important reasons for the danger of rollovers is weak car roofs. If a car’s roof isn’t able to withstand a significant impact, it may crush inward as the vehicle rolls, intruding into the cabin of the vehicle and leaving occupants seriously hurt.
When vehicle roofs crush, the company that made the vehicle is often considered negligent because their product was not adequately safe. This means that injured parties may be able to file an injury claim against the manufacturer in order to claim compensation to cover their medical bills and other damages. However, in order to claim these payments, the injured party needs to be able to prove their vehicle was unsafe. For this reason, you should make sure that you preserve your wrecked vehicle as evidence following any rollover collision.
