Vehicle Catches Fire After Chico Crash, Injures One
One person was sent to the hospital after a Chico crash that occurred on Thursday, February 11, 2021. Information released by the Chico Police Department (CPD) indicates that the incident happened in a residential area during the early morning and involved only one car. The injured party was not expected to have suffered life-threatening trauma, and the collision remains under police investigation.
Crash Information
The collision occurred just after midnight on Ivy Street on the Little Chico Creek Bridge just south of Highway 32. Police stated that a 2013 Nissan was driving on Ivy when, for reasons that remain unknown, the vehicle veered off-road. After leaving the road, the Nissan struck a fence and then went airborne, launching over the creek. At the other end of the creek, the car struck a tree, bounced off the tree, and struck the railing of the bridge before dropping into the creek bed.
A witness immediately ran into the creek in order to help the driver out of their vehicle. At some point during the incident, the vehicle caught fire.
Response
CPD and personnel from the Chico Fire Department responded to the accident. When they arrived, firefighters put out the blaze before it spread to nearby vegetation. Responders determined that the driver had sustained serious injuries and had the individuals driven to the Enloe Medical Center to receive medical care. No other individuals were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
Investigation of Chico Crash
As CPD investigates this crash, officers have indicated that the driver is not suspected to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. At this time, no causal factors have been confirmed by investigators. In many cases, solo-vehicle auto accidents happen for more than one reason, and these reasons may be things that the driver didn’t have any reasonable ability to control. As an example, the vehicle could have had a faulty or poorly built part, leading to an unavoidable collision. In this case, the company that built and/or sold that part may be considered at-fault for the crash.
Burn Injuries
Collisions that involve car fires are likely to cause burn injuries, which can have a huge impact on people’s lives. Because burns destroy so much bodily tissue, they can take a very long time to heal and often require reconstructive surgeries in addition to physical therapy and pain management medication. Altogether, these treatments can be very expensive, and paying for them can be hard, especially if you’ve lost income because of your injury.
Claiming Compensation
Fortunately for crash survivors, it is possible to file a personal injury claim and seek compensation for the damages you have suffered as a result of your accident. To learn more about what payments you can recover and the injury claim process, the best thing you can do is contact an expert lawyer in your area.
