Collision Information
Police reports state that the crash happened at around 8:20 p.m. on Highway 101 a few miles south of Ukiah close to the community of Hopland. A semi-truck and passenger vehicle had been traveling in opposite directions. The passenger vehicle reportedly narrowly avoided crashing into a guard rail before colliding head-on with the semi-truck near Green Bridge.
Emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the scene of the accident as soon as CHP received notification of the accident. No other people were reported to have been hurt during the crash.
Investigation
CHP closed down the highway and re-routed traffic to Old River Road while accident response and preliminary investigations were underway. So far, no suspected collision factors have been reported by investigating officers.
Trucking Accidents
On average, a fully loaded semi-truck weighs over 70,000 pounds. This means that there is an incredible amount of force involved when one of these vehicles is in an accident. Because of this, it’s common for semi-truck collisions to cause major and even fatal injuries. According to the NHTSA, around 700 people lose their lives in a trucking accident every year.
The companies that own and operate these large vehicles are well aware of the risks of truck accidents and are almost always ready to begin defending themselves immediately in the event of a crash. It’s common for trucking companies to have a legal team on-call in case one of their vehicles is involved in a collision. By responding quickly and aggressively, trucking companies hope to minimize their fault in the eyes of insurance companies and courts.
Because of this, people who’ve suffered injuries in a trucking crash should get in touch with an attorney as soon as they possibly can. The earlier that your lawyer can start working on your case, the more effectively they can defend your right to compensation.
