One Pinned Under Car After Eureka Area Accident
Local police reported a serious Eureka area accident on Tuesday, March 31, 2020. The accident reportedly involved one vehicle and happened in the evening on a local highway. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), one person was left with significant trauma during the accident. The cause of the crash is still being investigated by CHP officers.
Crash Information
The crash occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on Highway 169 near Martin Ferry’s Bridge. According to police, a vehicle traveling on the highway overturned for unknown reasons. As it rolled, the vehicle traveled off-road, eventually striking a nearby tree. Further details about the circumstances of the accident have not yet been reported.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the crash site right after CHP was notified. As they arrived at the scene, CHP officers reported that one person was trapped underneath the vehicle. Responders were reportedly able to extricate the trapped individual from the wreck using special machinery. Additionally, police reported that a juvenile was involved in the collision.
Investigation
As an official CHP investigation into possible accident factors is conducted, officers have not mentioned any likely causes of the crash. Single-vehicle accidents are likely to be caused by a variety of different factors and many crashes have more than one cause. Importantly, many of the things that cause single-vehicle crashes are things that drivers can’t be reasonably expected to control, such as malfunctioning car parts or defective roads.
Rollover Accidents
Accidents involving vehicles that overturn have a much higher severe and fatal accident rate than most collisions. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released data showing that around ten percent of deadly auto accidents involve an overturned vehicle while only around two percent of crashes are rollovers.
One of the main reasons that rollover collisions tend to be dangerous is because vehicle roofs are often not strong enough to withstand the force of a major impact. If a vehicle roof is designed improperly or made with weak materials, it is liable to crumple during a crash, leaving occupants with what are known as roof-crush injuries. In these cases, the company that manufactured the vehicle is often considered at-fault and can be held responsible for damages suffered as a result of the crash.
