Oroville Resident Dies During Crash in Nevada
On Sunday, November 30, 2020, one person lost their life after sustaining injuries during a vehicle crash in Nevada. The decedent was identified by Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) as Sky Thomas, a 30-year-old resident of Oroville. In addition to Thomas, one other individual reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. Updates on their condition remain unavailable at this time.
Accident Information
According to NHP, the accident occurred at around 11:34 p.m. on Highway Interstate 80 to the east of the community of Fernley. After conducting preliminary investigations, police indicated that they believe Thomas was driving a blue 2014 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on the highway when, for reasons that police do not currently understand, the pickup truck drifted left and entered oncoming traffic. While the Silverado was in eastbound lanes, it collided head-on with a gold 2002 Ford F-350, causing extreme damage to both vehicles.
Response to Crash in Nevada
NHP dispatched emergency response teams immediately after they received a call regarding the crash. Upon reaching the area, responders discovered that both drivers were severely injured. Tragically, Thomas passed away at the scene of the collision. The other driver, who was not identified, was rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital for life-saving medical care.
Investigation
The NHP Northern Command West MIRT is actively conducting a full-scale investigation into what factors could have played a role in causing this terrible accident. So far, officials have not provided any reports regarding suspected causes.
Often, auto accidents like this one are complicated cases that involve a number of different factors. Additionally, accidents commonly happen due to factors outside of the control of any of the involved drivers. In these cases, a defective truck part or issue with highway pavement may force a driver into a dangerous maneuver. Often, parties such as auto manufacturers and governments share liability for collisions involving these non-driver factors.
Private Investigations are Critical
Investigating a deadly car accident is a difficult job. Without the ability to interview the decedent, police can have a hard time fully understanding what caused the crash. Tragically, this can mean that families will be unable to obtain the compensation they deserve. For this reason, families should always have an Oroville wrongful death lawyer privately investigate the incident. By doing so, you ensure that an experienced professional is using their skills and resources to prioritize your family during investigations.
