Oroville Woman Almost Killed in Accident
I’m Ed Smith, a car accident lawyer in Oroville. Officers from the Oroville Police Department (OPD) report that a local woman is “lucky to be alive” after she was involved in a serious auto accident on Tuesday, January 2, 2017.
Accident Details
According to reports from OPD, the accident occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. A van had reportedly been heading northbound on Seventh Avenue close to Huntington Lane when it suddenly swerved into the oncoming side of the roadway.
After swerving into the wrong side of the road, the van collided with a parked trailer. The reason for the van’s dangerous swerve is currently unknown and Police have reported that they do not know the rate of speed the van had been traveling at prior to the collision.
Injuries
Emergency personnel reported that three individuals had been in the van when the auto accident occurred. However, the individual in the front passenger seat was the only one to sustain injuries. The injured motorist was taken to a local hospital for medical care after responders spent nearly 20 minutes extricating her from the wrecked van.
Oroville Police Sergeant Steve Solano remarked to reporters that the woman nearly escaped being fatally injured in the crash, noting that “she’s a very lucky, a very lucky lady.”
Investigation
Authorities are conducting an investigation into the possible causal factors of this accident- so far, no reports on the cause have been released. The incident may have been caused by factors such as driving under the influence, roadway defects, driving over the speed limit, and more.
Additionally, police closed the roadway surrounding the crash site for 45 minutes while they conducted a preliminary investigation. The roadway was reopened after the workers removed the dangerous wreckage from the street.
Personal Injury Damages
When the negligence of another party causes injuries, injured parties are able to recover for their damages. Damages that injured parties can recover, vary case by case and can include a wide variety of physical, financial, and emotional damages. Passengers hurt in an accident can also file claims against the negligent driver, and even applicable policies like Uninsured/Under Insured Motorist (UM/UIM) coverage on their own insurance or their driver’s.
Recoverable personal injury damages include things like pain and suffering (also called General Damages), medical expenses related to the accident, earnings lost because of injuries including loss of potential income, disfigurement and associated trauma, damage to marital relationships, and more.
Calling a Lawyer
Not every injury case necessitates a lawyer. However, cases involving serious injuries can involve complex legal procedures that an attorney with experience will be able to help you navigate. Enlisting the assistance of a seasoned attorney can help to ensure that you receive a fair settlement to compensate you and your family for your suffering.
