Pedestrian Hospitalized After Chico Accident
A pedestrian suffered serious injuries during a car accident that took place in Chico on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. According to staff at the Chico Police Department (CPD), the accident happened in the afternoon and involved only one vehicle. While the injured individual, identified as a local woman, was taken to a nearby hospital, updates on her condition haven’t been reported so far. CPD reports that they have this accident under active investigation.
Crash Details
According to CPD, the department first received calls reporting the incident at 3:00 p.m. They state that a woman had been crossing the intersection of East 5th and Flume Streets. At the same time, a pickup truck had been approaching the intersection. The pickup truck reportedly struck the woman inside of the intersection. However, further details about the circumstances of the accident remain unavailable.
Upon arriving at the collision scene, responders discovered the pedestrian lying in the road and determined that she was unconscious. She was loaded onto an ambulance and transported to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries. However, authorities did not specify how serious her injuries may have been.
Investigation
While CPD is continuing their investigation into what may have caused this accident, there have been no reports regarding what factors officers think could have been involved. Pedestrian accidents are extremely dangerous and can be caused by a number of factors, including driving while distracted, poor intersection visibility, dangerous roadway design, DUI, and more.
Traumatic Brain Injuries
In situations where crash survivors are knocked unconscious during an accident, there is typically a risk of traumatic brain injury (TBI). TBI is a general term that covers a wide range of injuries that affect the brain from mild concussions to hemorrhaging. TBIs are a particularly dangerous type of injury that commonly occur in vehicle accidents and are sometimes difficult to spot because symptoms can develop over a period of weeks or even months.
The symptoms of TBIs range widely and can affect people emotionally, mentally, and physically. While some people who have suffered a TBI may experience headaches, confusion, or nausea, others are often left with more severe symptoms like seizures, mobility issues, severe language difficulties, and more.
Injury Recovery
The process of recovering after an injury is often complicated and can differ for everybody. However, many people’s lives are dramatically affected by their injuries, and it can take a long time to regain your health. During this time, many people need to take time away from working, which can make paying for medical procedures and medications a major source of worry.
For these reasons, collision survivors can seek recompense for their injuries by pursuing personal injury claims. The payments available through these claims vary for each case, but many people are able to obtain recompense to fully cover the cost of their damages. If you want to learn more about this process, it is best to speak directly to a Chico personal injury lawyer.
