Pedestrian Suffers Serious Trauma in Eureka Car Crash
On Wednesday, December 15, 2020, a man suffered major injuries during a Eureka car crash. The Eureka Police Department (EPD) reported the accident occurred in the evening and involved a single pedestrian and passenger vehicle. The man, identified as a 65-year-old Eureka resident, was reportedly in critical condition following the accident.
Crash Details
EPD reports indicate that the crash took place at 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of Fourth and L Streets in the central area of the city. Officers indicated that the man had been crossing the road when he was struck by a white Cadillac sedan being driven by a 54-year-old area resident.
Based on preliminary investigations conducted at the accident scene, police believe that the vehicle had been traveling in the center lane while driving north on Fourth Street while the pedestrian was crossing the road.
Response to Eureka Car Crash
When responders reached the accident scene, they discovered that the pedestrian had sustained severe injuries. The pedestrian was placed on an ambulance and rushed to an area hospital where medical officials reported that he was in critical but stable condition.
Investigation
According to police, the Cadillac driver remained at the crash scene and cooperated with investigations. Officers have stated that they do not believe the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident, stating that the motorist “displayed no signs of impairment.”
EPD has stated that a full-scale investigation into possible causes of this traumatic collision is ongoing. Officers urged anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators and report what they know. Callers should reach out to Officer White at (707) 441-4060.
Pedestrian Injuries
Pedestrians are very likely to suffer major injuries in the event of an accident. Because they are not protected by walls of steel, airbags, or seat belts, they often receive serious trauma even in relatively low-speed accidents. Furthermore, some of the most common pedestrian injury types, such as traumatic brain injuries and bone fractures, can have a huge impact on your life and often involve a long, complicated recovery process.
Recovering after suffering a pedestrian accident injury can take months or even years. In severe cases, pedestrians might be left with health issues that affect them for the rest of their lives, like limited mobility or chronic pain. Furthermore, the necessary medical treatment for a major injury can be extensive, possibly involving surgeries, physical therapy, in-home care, or other expenses.
Recovering Compensation
All of the necessary medical care for a major accident injury can leave people unsure of how they’ll be able to afford to recover, especially if being injured has had an effect on their income. Thankfully, it’s possible for injured pedestrians to file personal injury claims. In many cases, these claims help survivors obtain full compensation not only for medical bills, but for lost income, personal suffering, and many other damages as well.
