Porsche Cayenne Fuel Pump Flange Recall

The German automaker, Porsche, has announced the recall of their older model SUV vehicles. The recall was created due to a defect in the fuel pump flanges of these vehicles. If unresolved, this may increase the risk of injury and death to vehicle occupants.

Recall Details

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling approximately 50,145 gasoline-powered vehicles equipped with a fuel pump flange that may deteriorate and crack over time, allowing gasoline to leak. If an ignition source is in the vicinity of a fuel leak, this may increase the risk of a fire.

What is a Fuel Pump Flange?

The protective rim or collar that is intended to maintain the placement of the fuel pump of a motor vehicle is known as the fuel pump flange. The function of the flange is to seal off fuel pump connections to prevent fuel leaks. The flange is in proximity to excessive heat produced by the engine, which makes it susceptible to wear-and-tear over time. It is important to always have a trusted mechanic inspect your vehicle for a deteriorated fuel pump flange.

Which Vehicles?

The following vehicles are affected by the fuel pump flange recall:

  • 2003 to 2006 Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo
  • 2004 to 2006 Cayenne
  • 2006 Cayenne S “Titanium” Edition

Recall Remedy

Owners will be notified by Porsche if their vehicle is affected by the recall. Owners may have their vehicles serviced at their nearest dealers, free of charge. The fuel filter flanges will be replaced with new filter flanges equipped with a protective film. A notification schedule has not yet been provided by the manufacturer. Owners may contact the Porsche customer service line at (800) 767-7243 for more information.

Reporting Vehicle Defects to NHTSA

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is the agency in charge of investigating defective vehicles and defective vehicle parts that fail to meet minimum safety standards. Consumer complaints are necessary to address the safety concerns of a vehicle. Manufacturers rely on these complaints to issue a recall and provide a remedy to resolve the safety defect. If you or a loved one is experiencing issues with your vehicle, it may be a good idea to report the problem to the SaferCar.gov, the NHTSA’s safety hotline. Not all recalls are entirely negative. This just means the manufacturer is improving in safer vehicle practices.
