Quincy Auto Accident Causes Serious Injuries
On Wednesday, December 16, 2020, a Quincy auto accident left a woman with severe injuries. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) released statements indicating that the accident involved a UPS truck as well as a big-rig and a small passenger vehicle. The driver of the smaller vehicle was reportedly the only individual who sustained injuries during the crash. Updates on her condition haven’t been provided at this time.
Crash Details
The accident happened just after 7:00 a.m. on Highway 70 between Quincy and Keddie in rural Plumas County. According to CHP reports, the UPS truck was traveling westbound on Highway 70 at high speeds while towing a trailer. For unknown reasons, the trailer swung over the median and into southbound traffic, eventually striking a grey Toyota Rav-4.
As a result of the initial collision, the Toyota was knocked off-course, careening into a tractor-trailer that was hauling a load of lumber. Photos of the accident scene show extreme damage to the front end of the Toyota as well as the front driver’s side of the big-rig tractor.
Response
The accident was called into CHP dispatch directly after it occurred, and officers were immediately sent to respond. Upon arriving, emergency personnel discovered the driver of the Toyota was trapped inside of her wrecked car. Firefighters used heavy machinery to perform an emergency extrication and eventually freed the woman from the wreck. After the extrication, the woman was placed on a helicopter ambulance and flown to a regional hospital for emergency medical procedures.
Investigation
The highway was shut down between Keddie and the Highway 70/89 junction until 10:00 a.m. during accident response and preliminary site investigations. CHP has indicated that they currently have officers continuing to investigate possible causes of this traumatic collision. At this time, a full list of suspected crash factors remains unavailable. In many cases, collisions similar to this one occur because of non-motorist crash causes like defective auto parts or dangerous roads.
Truck Accidents and Taking Quick Action
Trucking accidents happen often, and, when they do, they are very likely to involve major injuries. The companies that own these vehicles anticipate such accidents and typically have an action plan in order to begin defending themselves from financial responsibility directly after an accident happens. Unfortunately, this can make it highly difficult for crash survivors to obtain the payments that they deserve through personal injury claims.
Because truck companies take such quick action, it’s critical to call a Chico personal injury lawyer right away. If your attorney can begin working right away, they’ll be more able to make sure trucking companies pay you the compensation you truly deserve.
